What should I do if I've been in a car accident?

• Stop as soon as it is safe to do so and never drive away from the scene.
• Switch off the engine and turn on your hazard lights.
• Check whether anyone is injured. Call 999 immediately if someone is hurt, the road is blocked, or the situation feels unsafe.
• If it is safe, move yourself and any passengers to a place away from traffic.
• Exchange details with everyone involved, along with any witnesses. This should include names, addresses, phone numbers and vehicle registration numbers.
• Take photos of the scene, the damage to all vehicles, and the number plates, provided it is safe to do so.
• If you can, use our accident form to record the details and send photos directly to our team so we can support you with the next steps.
• Make a note of the time, location, road and weather conditions, and a brief summary of what happened.
• Keep all conversations factual and avoid discussing who was at fault.
• Report the incident to your insurer or accident management provider as soon as possible.
